When should I send my enewsletter?

So you have built your email list (see here for my advice on not BUYING an email list), you have written interesting content that you are sure your subscribers will love and you have created a beautiful engaging layout, it’s time to send…..but how can you choose the best day and time to send your enewsletter to get the best response?

The answer is pretty simple actually, as long as you have Google Analytics (see here for my advice on how to set this up). Google Analytics allows you to see what day and time you receive the most visitors to your website, this is the time to send your email! So where is this information in the slightly confusing jumble that is Google Analytics?

First login to your Google Analytics account and select Home (if you are not automatically sent here straight away).

Next scroll down until you reach a section called ‘When do your users visit?’. This is automatically set to the last 30 days, but if you want you can use the dropdown to change the date range

This is the user visit data for a hotel so their visitor data is affected by the seasons. To send a monthly email newsletter I change the date range to the past 90 days.

You can see that the most popular time of day varies based on what day of the week it is.

Sunday 6-7pm
Monday 12pm, 2-3pm and 6-8pm
Tuesday 11am, 3pm and 5-8pm
Wednesday 1-3pm and 7pm
Thursday 3pm, 5pm and 8pm
Friday 10am, 4pm and 8pm
Saturday – not very busy at all

So we can see patterns forming on the best days and times to send our emails, or even to schedule our social media posts!
