Not everyone ‘gets’ Twitter and for many using this social network is just another box ticking exercise in their social media strategy, but one feature of Twitter which I find really useful and which I think is very under appreciated is their Lists!
A Twitter List is basically a way of clumping together people or businesses you are following. I use this to keep an eye on the competition!
Checking out what your competitors are doing and saying is an essential part of any marketing strategy and it’s so much easier to do if they are all in one place.
It’s pretty easy to do, obviously you need a Twitter account, you need to Follow your competitors first. Another useful thing about Twitter is that once you’ve followed someone Twitter will suggest similar people or businesses you might like to follow, making finding the competition much easier.
Now click on the dropdown under your profile pic, top right and select Lists.

Select ‘Create List’ on the right hand side.

Give it a name, description if you like and make it private.

Now you can either search for people or companies by name, or from your ‘Following’ list you can click on the three little dots to the side of the ‘Following’ button and select ‘Add or remove from List’

Now when you click on that list (found at the top of your profile) you can see what they have all been up to!
