My website is 2 years old, do I need a new one?

The age of your website isn’t really a reason to trash it and start again, but there are some questions you need to ask yourself about whether it’s time to think again about your website.

  1. Is it responsive? This means that the website layout changes depending on what device people view it on. For example if people are on their mobile phone will it change to a long thin layout making it easier for them to use. This is a very important factor for search engines now, but it is likely that at least 60% of your website visitors are now viewing your website on a mobile, so you want to make life easy for them. You can check if your website is responsive here
  2. Does it still reflect your business and target audience? If your business has changed or grown, or your target audience has changed your website may not be effectively communicating any more. This doesn’t necessarily mean that you need a rebuild, but a redesign may be required
  3. Do you have a Content Management System and can you use it? If you can’t update your own website then you are missing out on keeping your audience up to date and also negatively effecting your search engine optimisation. Unfortunately if you have had a website for a long time your CMS may be very out of date and this could be a reason for an update
  4. Has it been tweaked too much? Making ongoing changes to a website is pretty essential, but sometimes you can tweak it so much that it loses all sense of design and structure, making an overhaul essential

If you are not sure how your website is looking these days get in touch, I’d be happy to have a chat with you about it.
