How much should I spend on business cards?

I’m sure we’ve all seen the adverts ‘250 business cards for £9.99’….but is this really an area where you want to be spending less than you would on a nice dinner?

Your business card will often be the first impression a prospective customer has of your business, especially if you are Business to Business and making a lot of connections through networking.

Unfortunately cheap business cards are usually cheap for a reason…low quality paper, bad print quality or using a template design that other people will also be using. If cheap, low quality and the same as everyone else are your Unique Selling Points then great! If not then I would suggest it is worth investing in your business cards.

So my answer to ‘How much should I spend on my business cards?’ is ‘as much as you can afford’. You don’t need to go crazy with metallic inks, embossing and UV gloss, but a nice quality (350gsm or higher), double sided (to give room for all your details) business card will be worth it’s weight in gold. Of course if your business is very high-end or creative you may need to do something a bit more special.
