How much does social media management cost?

If you have been thinking of outsourcing your social media then you are probably wondering ‘How much does social media management cost?’. There is no simple answer to this question as each provider or agency will charge different rates, but there are some factors that definitely affect the cost, so we thought we’d go through them here as well let you know the cost of our social media management and what you get for your investment.

How many social media platforms do you post to?

So, the first thing that is going to affect the cost of social media management is how many platforms you want to post to. I’m sure it is not going to surprise you to hear that the more platforms you want to post to, the more it is likely to cost. If budget is an issue then you could ask your chosen agency to recommend which platforms they think would be best for your business and focus your efforts on just one or two.

The reason it is more expensive to post to more platforms is that although some content can be mirrored, in order to get the best results from your social media each platforms’ ‘best practice’ should be followed to create unique posts. For example, Twitter has a low character limit (280 unless you are a Blue subscriber) so any posts for Twitter will need to be edited to meet this limit. In Instagram you cannot click on links in posts (soooo annoying) so any links will have to be switched out for ‘link in bio’….all of these adjustment take time, so cost you money.

How often do you post?

Once again, fairly obvious, but posting every day is more expensive than posting twice a week. This may of course lead to another question…how often should we be posting?

The answer to this depends on your business and target audience. Businesses that sell to the general public (B2C) generally need to post much more often than businesses that sell to other businesses (B2B).

Businesses that have a younger target audience generally post more regularly too, but with shorter form content…which brings us neatly on to…

What sort of content do you post?

There are so many different kinds of content that you can post to social media; text, image, video, slideshow, survey…the more complex the content the more expensive your social media will be. Basic image and text content will cost less than more complex video or slideshow content. However, an exciting range of content types is likely to bring more engagement and better results, so investing in a range of content types can be a very good idea.

How involved do you want to be?

Social media is most effective when, even though it is outsourced, you are still involved in its creation. If you are able to write blogs that your posts can link to, that will be cheaper than your provider writing the blogs AND creating the posts. If you are happy to record and provide video content that your provider can just tweak/edit, that will be cheaper than your provider doing the recording and the editing.

Do you want statistics reports?

Some providers will include statistics reports as an optional extra and not having these will make your social media cheaper. We however always include statistics reports in our packages, as we find otherwise we (and you) don’t know what is working and what is not and so cannot make adjustments to get the best results from your social media marketing.

Will you engage or will they?

If your provider only creates and schedules outgoing content and you engage with your Followers this will be cheaper. Many providers do offer to engage on your behalf and share your content to other Groups, but this is a more costly option.

Do you want adverts, stories or reels?

All of these added extras that social media platforms offer will cost extra and there will be many factors involved in the creation of each option that will affect this cost.
